The U.S. Department of Justice 2003 report (p2) says
- recidivism rate is about 3.5% for a new sex offense after 3 years from prison release.
- 68% of inmates who served time for a variety of non-sex crimes were re-arrested. 8% of them were for a sex crime.
- 47% of inmates who served time for rape, sexual assault, or child molestation were re-arrested, but only
- 5.3% of them were for a new sex crime, and
- 3.5% were convicted for a new sex crime.
